Mixed Media Nutcracker Bauble

Weekly Mixed Media Class with Naomi-Jon - Nutcracker Bauble Mixed Media Bauble

Decorating Baubles Anyone

Mixed Media Class with Naomi-Jon will always involve a surprise whether it is by what you are creating or the materials you are using. In this class, you get a bit of both. Naomi-Jon decorates a bauble wooden ornament from Scrapbook Fantasies' exclusive range of ornaments with our mini collection Nutcracker and Boho Beauty Paper sprinkled with Snow Princess Rice Paper. This weekly mixed media class is like no other, as it builds and builds with a little accessory here and paint there and lots of glue everywhere. This finished Christmas decoration can be hung on your Christmas tree or given as a gift. And once you have made one it is as easy as 1, 2, 3 to make more with either the extras in our Mixed Media Bundle or from stash.

Christmas Activities for Everyone

You can get your family, friends or coworkers involved and make these baubles into the perfect ice breaker, team-building activity, time saver with the kids or a holiday fun activity that doesn't involve 10 hours of cleaning afterwards. Come along, and watch on Naomi-Jon Redshaw's YouTube Channel or in the Scrapbook Fantasies Creative Family Facebook Group.

The Challenge

When creating off the canvas or off the journal project .. the back is just as important as the front. Especially when we are doing layering with Mixed Media Elements.

How to Remember:

  1. Always Plan the Back at the same time as painting the front and ...
  2. Fake it to you make it (if you forget to create the back at the same time)

Layering

Importance of layering

When it comes to layering it is important to use a wide range of collage items. Here is a list of Naomi Jon's Favourite Collage Items:

  • Gauze = Its texture is diverse and can lift a mixed media layout like you will never believe.
  • Colour-Cuts = No fussy-cutting involved and there is a large range to choose from to match your creation.
  • Letter Stickers = They don't need to spell a word and look great everywhere. And you can paint them any colour without losing their texture or detail.

Mixed Media Classes

Conclusion

This mixed media class, like all Scrapbook Fantasies classes, was about learning in real-time and allowing crafters to see the process step-by-step. In this class, Naomi-Jon experimented with how much she could fit on a Christmas Decoration and that when making a decoration always add plenty of glue + some more glue and then to finish it off more glue.

The Artist: Naomi-Jon Redshaw

Hello Beautiful Creative Family, I am Naomi-Jon Redshaw, an artist who loves collage and mixed media. My favourite part about mixed media is layering different textures and pushing the limits. I mainly use scrapbooking supplies, paint, and a few around-the-home items in my art as I believe it is important to be inspired by your surroundings. Plus Scrapbooking and Cardmaking are my mixed media roots. I hope to see you all at my next mixed media class or demo.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you know when an art journal page is finished?

Naomi-Jon generally stops when she is happy or when it looks serene. But if you do go too far ... you just keep going until you are happy again.

Is Mixed Media always messy?

Mixed Media does not have to be messy. For example, Alicia Redshaw is a relevantly clean crafter and painter, no matter what. Whereas Naomi-Jon Redshaw is messy, all the way. She always has paint on her arms and hands and forgets to clean as she goes.

Do you have to use your hands to paint mixed media?

No, you don't have to use your hands. Often Alicia and Naomi-Jon Redshaw show alternative ways or explain it while they go through the process. As there is never only one way to do art.

How do you stick on 3D collage items, like bows?

Lots and lots of glue. The best glue Alicia and Naomi-Jon find when sticking down something, like a bow or flair is Gel Medium Matte and or Light Modeling Paste.
